Apple released Apple iOS 14.4 Beta 2. This is available to all developers that are enrolled in the program at the same time around the world. Now this came in at 340.2 megabytes on iPhone, 12 pro max.
And it was anywhere between 300 and 400 megabytes on all the devices. So the iPhone 11, the 12.9 inch iPad pro from 2020. And the iPhone success plus. So it was about that large on all of them. Now let's go ahead. And then talk at the build number. And then talk about what's new.
So you we'll go to settings. Then it will go to general than about And you can see the build number is 18 D five zero four three D. So normally as we get to newer betas. You count down from D to a. And so you seemingly have a few more betas left before. There's a final release Apple iOS 14.4 Beta 2. I'll talk more about when to expect the further betas. And the final release a little bit later.
Now also Applets released along with this update. iPad OS 14.4 beta 2, watch OS 7.3 beta 2. Along with tv Apple iOS 14.4 Beta 2 and macOS big Sur 11.2 beta 2. So a lot of new beta updates. This is the first beta update series of the year. Now there's also a modem update for your iPhone. So if you're on this beta beta two. And you were having connectivity issues.
Apple has updated the modem. And you should hopefully have better connectivity. I had some issues with 5g and WIFI. And switching back. And forth, things like that. So hopefully it fixes any issue you had with 5g or 4g. Now, before we talk about the new features. Apple launches, major new racial equity. And justice initiative programs to challenge systemic racism.

Advance racial equity nationwide. And that says. They've committed $100 million to help with that. And there's a lot of information that seems pretty good. Now the first thing is they've changed some thing. That I know a lot of people will be really grateful for. So if you go to your settings. Then go to sound and haptics under headphones safety. If you're using headphone notifications to reduce loud sounds or let you know.
When you're in a loud environment. The overall idea is great. But a lot of people were having problems with the volume changing on its own. And then you couldn't hear your music or maybe a podcast when you were in the car. Apple has addressed this by updating Bluetooth settings.
So if you go into your settings. And then go to Bluetooth, select the device. You're connected to, for example. If You'll select Your car. Then Go to device type. And now you can select what type of device it is. So from car stereo, headphone hearing aid, speaker. And other. So by selecting this. It better helps Apple understand what it is. And hopefully it won't mess with the volume.
So for example. if you have it set to car stereo. It shouldn't really adjust if you have it to headphones. It shouldn't. I would imagine. Or it should. You'd want it set to where you set it. So all of those things can be updated now. And I think that was a great way to do it. You can change that on anything here. You'll see accessory that one has nothing. But you'll see Air Pods pro. It knows that it's a headphone.
So it's not really going to change anything there. Now there's a new feature that was in Apple iOS 14.4 Beta 2 one that. When you use your iPhone and maybe you're playing music. And you have a home pod mini nearby. It's using the U one chip set to know what's nearby. And as I bring in a home pod mini. You can make the phone send whatever 'son the phone to the home pod. As you get closer. It will jump. And you saw that just there.
Now the nice thing is, is it seems like they've improved the haptics of this. If You move this away. It goes away. And they've improved it overall. As you bring the phone closer. It gets more sort of a little stronger haptic feedback feeling. And they've updated that. But one thing. I noticed that I hadn't seen before. And maybe it was there. But I wasn't able to reproduce it is when you're placing a phone call. You can actually send the phone call there as well.
Now you could do this just by tapping. But it actually has a new dialogue or the way it looks. So let me show you that. It says transfer from iPhone phone call. I wasn't able to get this to pop up every single time. I think they fixed a lot of the issues with the home pod. And having it jump over like that. You'll see our sense of it is sensitive.
Now the next thing is you can't see of this Apple iOS 14.4 Beta 2. There's quite a few things in the code that you can't see. But they've updated accessibility. Descriptions of wallpapers. So for example. If you go into your settings and the accessibility. And then voiceover. If you're using voiceover, it describes what it's seeing. So maybe you're in the wallpaper section.
There's new descriptions of wallpaper in this Apple iOS 14.4 Beta 2. Now I wasn't able to find wallpaper that met those descriptions. So maybe there's some new ones on the way. But in general, there's better descriptions. So expect more from accessibility. And it's great to see Apple continually update that. Now on the iPhone 12 series phones. If you try. And swap a camera module from say a 12 pro max to another iPhone, 12 pro max.
It won't work. The camera will not work. And apparently. It will show you where he or not it's genuine or not. That's within the code. We've seen this with batteries. And now they're doing it with cameras. So it should let you know whether or not they're going to allow third party cameras to work or not. It's hard to say there's also something new information or basically wording when it comes to turning off find mice. So if you're using your Apple ID.
If you're using your Apple ID to identify where your devices are, find my helps you locate those. When you turn it off. They've changed some of the wording on that. And speaking of find my, if you're in iOS 14.3. But if you go to Safari. Then at the top type. Find my colon slash slash items. And. Hit go. It will say open this page and find my go ahead. And hit open.
And you'll see this new dialog appear that says, add an item. Now this has to do with air tags That we've expected for quite some time. But there wasn't a quick way to po pit up that people were aware. And now you can bring this up. So even on 14.3 it's here. They just haven't launched anything to allow you to use this. So if you go ahead and hit. Add item. You'll see it says, searching items.

Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer to make your item discoverable. Now this hints at third party items. Not necessarily air tags. But it looks like. We've got that built in to find my. And it should be coming soon. Now, Asfar as physical things that have changed. There's not really anything else. But there are a few known issues that still exist that I checked into.
And the green tin issue is still there. So If you did have some people message me on Twitter saying the green tint is still there with this beta. You can see on Twitter. There's a green tint or a green hue to what we're seeing here. So if we go back here. You can see it on the outside edges. It's hard to show on camera. But it's there. However this update seemingly has fixed the stutter issue.
So if you're swiping between pages. Maybe you open music, swipe out of it. It seems super smooth ,buttery smooth at this point. And it's nice that it's really much faster. You will show you that with the benchmarks in just a moment. But as far as the stutter. It seems to be gone. So it looks like they've fixed that they've still got some work to do on the green tint issue. Now, as faras iPad, Apple iOS 14.4 Beta 2
Well expect the same sort of changes. There's not a whole lot else in here. So if you go into settings. Go to Bluetooth, for example. You will select, I'm not sure it will have anything in here. That it will let me change that. But you go ahead. And select the Xbox controller. It's not going to see that.
So you're not going to be able to select those devices for hearing in here. But it has to recognize something that's a little bit different. Whether that be a car or something else. But again, you have the same sort of changes that you have on the iPhone that you do on the iPad. So don't expect anything else. Hopefully we'll have the same performance. And better battery life.
Now, as far as battery life, well, battery life has not been great on the previous beta. You'll see if you go over the last 10 days yesterday. I only had three hours and four minutes of screen on time, four hours and 46 minutes of screen off time. And I used about 40% of my battery. That's actually pretty good. Generally. I will not get that sort of usage overall. I'll get about eight hours, six to eight hours of screen on time.

You should be getting 10to 12 with a 12 pro max. So hopefully it will be updated in this Apple iOS 14.4 Beta 2. It is a beta. I'm not too concerned about it yet, but I'd like to see that changed in the future. Of course now, like I said, performance overall seems to be better on all of these devices. Whether it be the success plus or the 11. For example. As you swipe through the different pages.
You'll see that it seems to be pretty fast. Things will load a little bit slower on the success plus of course. We'll go into settings. And you'll see. It's nice and smooth and fast. And That will be reflected in what we see in geek bench here in just a moment. Because in general. It looks like it's improved over all of these devices. Then I go into geek bench five on my 12 pro max. I scored 1,601 for single core, 4,154 for multi-core.
So it's not a huge jump. But it's definitely an improvement. And it seems to be an improvement over what. We've had almost the entire time. As far as single core. And multi-core seems to be basically better as well. So if you look back all of these dates. It seems to be better in general. Now let's take a look at all of these devices. So from left to right.
You'll see, If you have the iPad pro 12.9 from 2020. Than the iPhone six S plus. Then the iPhone 11. Then the iPhone 12 pro max. And all of these scores are seeming little bit better than the previous scores. You looked at the history on them. So it seems to be improved overall generally. When it's the same across all the devices. Even right after updating. We may see some improvement since then.
So right now it seems like it's doing very well. So other than that. I haven't seen anything else in this particular update. I've talked about it at length. We didn't see that first and then a beta. So it's possible. We'll see it as soon as tomorrow. So if you go into the calendar. Then you'll see tomorrow the 14th. You could see something like that along with the public beta. But the reason I'm saying.
I expect a public release. Because seeing Apple no longer signing iOS 14.2 0.1 or 14.2. That means there's only one version to downgrade. And that's 14.3. Then there's a beta to go to. And usually when that's the case. You see a public release within two weeks. And so this will be the first week. If we don't see it this week expect a public release as early as next week.

So that's pretty typical. If Apple continues to be consistent with that. You should see that fairly soon. It will be minor. But hopefully it fixes that green tin issue. Even though they didn't in this Apple iOS 14.4 Beta 2. Now also, if you're looking for iOS 14.4 betas, well. We may not be on a weekly schedule yet. We could be on a bi-weekly schedule.
But based on what Apple did last year with iOS 13.4. We may not see a final release of 14.4 until March. So there were five betas last year. It seems like we could get the same this year to get everything right. Then they usually have some hardware announcements. And things like that in March. So that could be what we're looking forward to. We'll have a public release somewhere in there.
And then also a public release of 14.4 in a few months. This fixed the stutter. And closing apps and things as much better. As beta testers. We want to submit feedback to Apple. So That we can make or help them make better software. So that we have a better experience. Not just for ourselves. But for everyone else as well.
